Dear colleagues,
The SEH Congress (European Congress of Herpetology) is traditionally held every two years in odd-numbered years, providing scientists, conservationists, and policymakers from across Europe and beyond with a platform to meet and discuss current findings and trends in herpetology.
As part of the local organizing committee, we are delighted to invite you to the 23nd SEH Congress and Ordinary General Meeting, which will take place in Bonn.
The conference is hosted by the Herpetology Section of the Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB), Museum Koenig, and is supported by the DGHT.
Initially, the plan was to hold the SEH meeting together with the DGHT meeting at Museum Koenig and the adjacent Hotel Kanzler. However, due to the conversion of the hotel’s conference rooms into guest rooms during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the lack of alternative affordable venues with sufficient space for both conferences, this was no longer feasible.
Therefore, the SEH Congress will take place from 8th to 12th September 2025 at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI), approximately 3 km from Museum Koenig, directly following the DGHT meeting. This allows participants to seamlessly attend both events.
The GSI, which will also host the DGHT’s social evening, is within walking distance to the “Rheinauen Park”, Bonn’s green oasis featuring scenic walking trails and various recreational activities. The city center is easily accessible in under 20 minutes by public transport.
To kick off the SEH Coongress, we invite you to the Icebreaker event on 8th September 2025 in the “Festsaal” of Museum Koenig.
The SEH Congress will feature a diverse programme, including plenary lectures, specialized sessions, workshops, the SEH’s Ordinary General Meeting, and excursions.
We welcome proposals and expressions of interest for specific topics and workshops. Please send your suggestions via email to c.koch@leibniz-lib.de or andreas.maletzky@plus.ac.at.

We look forward to your participation and wish you an inspiring stay in Bonn in September 2025!
